Health Reboot - Choice of Supplements

Ever since my first consult with Dr. Pelton, I supplemented primarily with EXOS Performance supplements. EXOS Performance is created by Thorne Research, one of the best quality supplement companies I've come across. I was connected with Thorne Research through WellnessFX who are affiliated with each other, and for good reason. The measures of integrity Thorne Research takes to ensure quality supplements are noticed in their collaboration with the Mayo Clinic and others leaders in the healthcare world. If this sounds like a plug to them, well, they deserve it.

EXOS Performance (Thorne Research)

EXOS Performance Vitamin D + K due to my vitamin D deficiency. I was able to blast my Vitamin D (a little too high) by timing my vitamin D supplementation with high quality fats. The substantial amount of research that exists claiming that Vitamin D deficiency across the globe seems to be of great concern to many health professionals. 

EXOS Performance Omega-3 - A general health supplement recommended by Dr. Pelton. Although I eat wild caught salmon every so often, Dr. Pelton explained how its important to maintain a consistent intake of Omega 3 through sources that do not contain mercury. Omega 3 levels are deficient in adults in our society which leads to an imbalance of our long-chain Omega 3 fatty acids EPA to DHA ratio.

EXOS Performance Probiotic - Another general health supplement recommended by Dr. Pelton that I have been taking twice a day with my meal. This probiotic contains the strains: 

  • Lactobacillus gasseri KS-13
  • Bifidobacterium longum MM-2
  • Bifidobacterium bifidum G9-1

As recommended by Dr. Pelton and the Ben Greenfield, making sure you introduce different strains of probiotics to your system by way of fermented foods and switching your supplement, I plan to try a different brand for this very reason. Dr. Pelton mentioned Dr. O'Hirra's ME-3 which contains the patented probiotic Lactobacillus fermentum ME-3 which they claim produces and recycles glutathione in your gut. I have yet to use this one but it would seem fitting to cycle it with other seemingly high quality brands.

In addition, I used the EXOS Performance B Vitamins supplement in the morning. What I love most about this Vitamin B blend is the addition of Magnolia officinalis (bark) extract and Phellodendron amurense (bark) extract which both shows promise in its anxiolytic effects.

Life Extension

For a multi-vitamin, I went with Life Extension two-a-day Multi Vitamin due to cost. Supplements can certainly be expensive, and while the folks at EXOS Performance were very kind enough to allow me to send me their supplements, it was important to me that I not lose touch of the reality of how pricey top quality supplements can be.

To begin working on my cholesterol levels, Dr. Pelton recommended I supplement daily with Niacin, Ascorbyl Palmitate and Lysine and directed me to read up on Pauling Therapy. I have heard strong opposition to this therapy so I took this advice on the basis that I would try it until my follow up blood results arrive and determine whether or not it works for me. I told myself whether or not I'd be able to stabilize my cholesterol levels using this method, I will find an alternative for the second to third blood draw to keep experimenting due to the strong opposition that exists. Again, this is the nature of self experimentation and the many, many, many opinions that exist on the many, many, many different remedies. For the record, as seen in my second blood draw results, my cholesterol wasn't brought all back into range. Yes, many other factors exist, but I'll be sticking to my word about trying something different.

Moving Forward

To this day I continue taking:

  • Omega-3
  • Multi Vitamin
  • Probiotic
  • The Vitamin B was nice to have and test, as was the Vitamin D but my second blood test indicated that they are not necessary any more. With my third blood test, I hope to have my Omega-3 levels tested to see where I stand. In regards to everyday general health maintenance though, my consults shared the knowledge I needed to hear to ensure that I, at the very least, take a Multi and a Probiotic daily.
