Health Reboot - Altering Diet

TheHumanBluPrint is a health and wellness website, but we're not here to follow wellness trends. We're here to pick out the bullshit from what has potential, for ourselves. With that said, I don't subscribe to a diet. I'm not gluten free, I'm not paleo, I'm not raw-vegan. I've certainly tried a few of those diets for an extended amount of time, but limiting myself within the constraints of a trendy diet sounds like my worst nightmare.

For this health reboot, I focused on what foods I was accustomed to eating that were probably not giving me many added benefits. Especially foods that only seemed to be satisfying me when I would find myself experiencing stress or anxiety.

So I made a massive list of foods I enjoyed AND would benefit my health. I came up with this:

Cruciferous Vegetables:

  • Kale
  • Collard Greens
  • Brussel Sprouts
  • Broccoli
  • Cauliflower
  • Bok Choy
  • Arugula
  • Maca
  • Daicon

Non-Cruciferous Vegatables:

  • Bell peppers
  • Squash
  • Tomato
  • Zucchini
  • Peas
  • Green beans
  • Carrots
  • Asparagus
  • Celery
  • Cucumber
  • Sweet potatoes
  • Beets

  • Blueberries
  • Blackberries
  • Apples (assorted)
  • Banana
  • Avocado

  • Wild Caught Salmon
  • Grass-Fed Beef/Chicken (US Wellness)
  • Organic sausage (Aidell's)
  • Organic Turkey meat/bacon
  • Beef Broth

Dairy (lactose intolerant):

  • To be avoided at all cost.
  • Grass-fed Butters (for cooking, sometimes)

  • Sprouted Grains
  • Organic Rolled Oats
  • Whole Wheat Pasta
  • Whole Wheat Tortillas

  • To be avoided at all cost.

  • Filtered Water
  • Coffee (black)
  • Blueberry Juice
  • Cider
  • Red Wine

Training Nutrition:

  • EXO Protein Bars
  • Lara Bars

Fermented Foods:

  • Sauerkraut
  • Coconut Yogurt
  • Kimchi

  • Black Beans
  • Adzuki Beans
  • Kidney Beans

Nuts and Seeds:

  • Raw Almonds
  • Brazil Nuts
  • Sunflower Seeds
  • Pumpkin Seeds
  • Chia Seeds

  • EVOO
  • EVAO

  • Shitake Mushroom
  • Portabello Mushroom

With this list being my new "grocery list", I've been roaming the aisles of Trader Joe's or Fairway Market with a healthier perspective than what I had been accustomed to in the past. I essentially eliminated white breads, white pastas, generic meats, dairy products that are delicious but clearly gastrointestinally detrimental to me and beer.

This list is far from my definitive list of healthy foods. This list will continue to evolve. One can try to label or categorize what my "diet" is, but I find that unnecessary and a waste of time. I'm going off what works best and feels best for me so whether or not I meet the guidelines of a certain trending diet out there is of little importance.
