Flu Season

As we move into the cold/flu season, check out some of these nifty immune supportive foods that may be beneficial to incorporate into your diet:


•Research shows that people who take garlic daily decrease their chances of getting a cold by 60%! Even more interesting is that even when the control group did get a cold, the duration was shorter than the placebo group. Garlic is antibacterial, anti-fungal and antiviral and should be consumed fresh and/or fermented for superb results. Studies suggest that taking 180mg of allicin (active compound in garlic) works just as well. Always be mindful of the brand you opt for. Go for organic b/c there have been reports of heavy metals found in the non-organic types. Dr. Mercola makes a solid aged black garlic supplement!


•Have you heard of oregano oil before? This stuff is powerful! It's antibacterial, antifungal, antimicrobial, antiviral and has been shown to be effective against antibiotic-resistant bacteria. It’s especially effective for respiratory and bacterial infections. You could add the oil to a vaporizer or place a couple drops in a bowl of steaming water or oil diffuser. •Colloidal silver is also proven to boost your immune system by taking a dropper-full daily (swish in mouth). When fighting bronchial infections dosing is 1 tsp up to 3 times per day or place a teaspoon in a neti pot a couples of times a day.


•Consider using apple-cider vinegar at the onset or if you’ve been around someone with a cold. It also aids in sore throat. Put two 1 to 2 tablespoons in a glass of water and drink three times a day. Keep in mind in that ACV tolerance will vary for some. Keep an open mind when using this elixir!


•Curcumin, which is a substance found in the turmeric root, contains powerful anti-viral, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial compounds. This is another stellar immune booster which can be taken as a preventative measure at the onset of a cold or flu. Many studies suggest in the 1 to 2 grams per day.
