What is CBD oil and where does it come from?
CBD originates from the hemp plant. In fact, 40% of the hemp plant consists of CBD. Keep in mind that CBD oil doesn’t have the same effects like THC does because it doesn’t act on the same pathway. These receptors, called CH1, are heavily concentrated in the brain and give the user mind stimulating effects one gets from THC. An interesting side note is that CBD seems to reduce the intoxicating THC effects one gets from the marijuana high. So things like memory impairment and paranoia are lessened with using CBD. I just want to express that this kind of CBD oil will not get you high as it does not contain the psychoactive component called THC. I also want to iterate that I’m not a doctor, so please consult with your physician before embarking on a protocol like this.
Research on CBD Oil
Keep in mind that research is still in its infancy stage. However, many people and scientists are reporting on the healing impacts of CBD oil. Scientists are using CBD in many medical applications. Conditions like multiple sclerosis, spasms, social anxiety disorders, ADD/ADHD, bipolar disorders, schizophrenia, nausea, inflammation and various forms of cancer especially of the brain. Its pretty groundbreaking that this one compound can have such a lasting impact on the mind and body. Let’s move onto some interesting research I dug up.
In one study, researchers looked at the effects of CBD on cancer. The study found that CBD had the ability to control the spread of malignant breast tumors and halt the growth of new breast cancer cells from locating to other parts of the body. This process is known as metastasis.
Most impressive of all is that CBD oil has the capacity to render to specific types of cancerous cells more prone to chemotherapy agents. To put this into simpler terms, CBD oil encourages the chemotherapy to be more effective at targeting cancerous cells in the body while at the same time doing less harm to the patient.
Another area that CBD oil addresses quite well is inflammation in the body. This one study done on rats shows that CBD greatly reduces this specific type of acute arthritis that tends to affect various types of joint disorders. Keep in mind that still so much is yet fully understood about CBD oil and its effect on the body.
When it comes to finding the right type of CBD oil supplement, it can be quite confusing. Here are some things to consider when choosing a CBD supplement. First, you want to make sure to avoid CBD in its oil form. This oil form gets easily lost in the digestive process, thus lowering its effectiveness in the body. Instead, you want to look for CBD in water-soluble form.
This water-soluble form allows it to easily pass into the cell walls effortlessly. Thirdly, look for brands that incorporate ayurvedic herbs into the formula. This increases the effectiveness of CBD oil. Some classic ayurvedic herbs to look for are turmeric, lemon balm and ashwagandha. The top three brands I recommend are Bio CBD+, Endoca and CW botanicals. My personal recommendation is the CBD oil that Ben Greenfield offers. A neat little hack I like to do is combine Ben’s CBD with Onnit Alpha Brain. Talk about brain firing on all cylinders! As you can see, the future is more than bright for this cool compound! What do you make of this? Have you taken CBD oil before?
